'Art is not what you see, but what you make others see' (Degas)

Degas famously tells us art is not about what you see, but what you make others see. Nowhere is that truer than here at Caritas St Joseph's. Our students do not always communicate through the written or spoken word but through the Arts.

This can take on many forms; art through painting, art through dance, art through clay, art through paper and art through using recyclable materials such as wooden pallets. We strive to arrange our lifelong learning courses so that students get access to most of these courses every day.

Our students are so often invisible to society because they communicate and learn in a different way to others. Art through the mediums described above help them to be visible not only in our community here at Hendon but in their own families, homes and communities outside.

This year sees us in partnership with several others to help our students become more visible within society; with our local borough Barnet and Hendon Job Centre to support those with learning disabilities to be able to find meaningful employment opportunities, and continue with our current partners Gardening Education to support us in City and Guilds qualifications for Horticulture and with OCR for those of our students who have complex and multiple disabilities.

So let 2017 become the year you get noticed by everyone. Come along and be a part of our visible community as we celebrate our 40th anniversary and make Degas words become real.
